Following the bloody clash that left two members of Accord dead and many injured during a campaign at Odinjo area of Ibadan South East Local Government of Oyo State, the Labour Party, LP, gubernatorial candidate in the State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has charged security operatives to get the perpetrators booked.
Two former chairmen, Gbenga Adewusi and Akeem Ige jostling to represent Ibadan South East/ Ibadan North East Federal Constituency and Ibadan South East State constituency in the State Assembly respectively had organised a rally to drum up support for their aspiration before political thugs unleashed terror on party members who had gathered to witness the rally.
Reacting to the gory incident through a statement obtained on Monday from his Director of Public Affairs Mr Oludare Ogunlana, the former governor reiterated his call for adequate security before, during and after the election, warning that the election might resort to a mirage without security measures.
He noted that the LP in the State has been a victim of different violent attacks since the beginning of this campaign.
The statement read thus:
"We have experienced violence from rival political thugs and security agents from the Department of State Security."
Recalling how one of the party's campaign buses was attacked and riddled with bullets during the gubernatorial debate at a local radio station between APC and LP, he said that he wrote a petition, alleging the chairman of the State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde a.k.a Fele of being the principal actor behind the attack but nothing has been done as "Fele walks freely in town."
"Moreover, not long ago, our campaign office 'Destiny House' was attacked, with property worth millions of naira vandalized in the process
"Furthermore, our party agents have been attacked on several occasions while pasting posters of our party and candidates. Our candidates' posters on the streets have either been torn or destroyed as we speak
"We are calling the attention of the Inspector General of Police to this for urgent action. The thugs disturbing our peace must be arrested, including their sponsors".
