Plane Cruising Along Road in Lagos - Witnesses surprised

Lagosians woke up on Thursday to find themselves lurked in a heavy traffic jam as a private jet plane stood afloat along Igando Road and was being towed by a SUV Jeep. Witnesses expressed their shock at the sight of Jets being towed by a 4x4 SUV Jeep along Oshodi - Apapa in Lagos, Nigeria.
Reports from  the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA confirm that the plane is one of the grounded jets lying around the Lagos Airport and was being towed away. No casualties or crash as was wrongly speculated. However, NEMA has disclosed that the plane in Igando was being ferried to a possible dump site, by a Hyab. Officials of the Federal Airports Authority also revealed that the plane which was out of use was moved from the airport.

Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Spokesperson for South-West, debunked the rumour saying that it was a scrap aeroplane being evacuated from the airport. He clarified that the aircraft was at Mangoro and not Igando as was being circulated in social media.
“It was just the scrap of an aircraft that was being evacuated from the airport, the federal government had issued a directive that all scrap aircraft be evacuated from all airports, as well as scrap ships from our waterways,” Mr. Farinloye told the press

In an insightful update Street Journal's investigation revealed that the plane, an Embraer 120, marked 5N-BLN was once owned by Capital Airlines. The plane , according to the investigation was involved in an incident in August 2009 when thick smoke from the engine on the right wing filled the plane shortly before take-off at the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu.  The 20 passengers on board managed to escape while firemen responded promptly thus averting what could have been a disaster. NEMA operatives swung to action immediately and has advised that no panic should be entertained as a result of the bizzare event.

Mr. Farinloye who described the rumour as one of the evils of social media maintained that “the evacuation is usually done at night to forestall this kind of public misinformation by mischief makers. We were there at 11.20 p.m. yesterday,” he added.
