OPU launched in Banjul amidst huge turnouts of Yoruba and Igbo communities in Gambia, by Segun Olalekan.
OPU Gambia chapter was officially floated in the western-end coast of Africa by the Convener Wordwide of the organisation Otunba (Dr) Gani Adams who was received by the congregation of Yorubas and Igbo community members, led by President of Nigeria Union in Gambia, and Nigerian diplomatic corpse led by the Consular Officer, Mrs Ekanem present at Officers' Mess Kotu South, Banjul, Gambia.
As part of routine protocols that trail the launching of Oodua Progressive Union in diaspora, a delegation of Nigeria Embassy in Gambia was led by Mrs Ekanemeh, the Consular Officer, gave a sounding welcome to the entourage of the convener. Traditional rulers such as (HRM) Oba Adewole Joseph, Owa Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, in Ekiti State, (HRM) Oba Yisa Olanipekun, Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko, Ondo State, (HRM) Oba Okunlola-Oni Joseph, Onigbaye of Igbaye, Osun State and many dignitaries from Nigeria.

The event, thrown into exhiliarating mood occassioned by cultural dances, was also witnessed by a significant number of Igbo Community members in Gambia, noticeably members of River/Delta/Bayelsa Communities in Gambia, President of Nigeria Union in Gambia and a lot Yoruba sons and daughters in The Gambia as well as some illustrious sons and daughters of Republic of The Gambia, who were present at the launching ceremony.
''Oodua Progressive Union, being a non-political and non-religion culture promotion organisation fosters unity and brings her members together in order to identify with and appreciate their cultural identities and attending socio-economic values'', said the Convener, Otunba Gani Adams.
It would be revalled that Oodua Progressive Union chapters of Togo, Ghana and Cote D'ivoir was launched in September.
